eating dog
Dog meat is frowned upon by the Chinese government, yet in southern China's Guanxi province, dog meat can be found in many of the small rural markets. For westerners this practice of butchering a dog seems viscious and disgusting, but for a peasant in the south, meat is meat. Dogs can be seen wandering the streets and living with their owners. A select few are kept for breading and puppies run the town eating scraps and playing with children. When they are full grown, however, the owners bring their pups to market for slaughter. China is not alone and dog meat can also be found in Vietnam and Korea. Western tourists often eat dog just to say they did so guest houses and restaurants often have fried dog on the menu.
